Friday (26th May) in the evening Pirjo came with her eldest son (15 years) to collect me. We were going to learn to play Frisbee Golf! We drove out to a park area which had some slopes and trees and in between the trees were metal baskets. The idea was to stand at the t-off point and then fling your frisbee into the basket. I struggled to even see the basket on the first one! The squares where we threw off from would give an indicator of the parr for the course - most were 3 and then the distance to the basket - 85-90 metres and then a suggested line of throw.

Somehow I didn't manage to take a picture of either Pirjo or I in action!
This is definitely a popular men's sport - we did see 2 women but the rest were groups of boys / men. It certainly takes a lot of arm power to propel the frisbee and also control which direction in went in! It was also quite technical deciding which type of frisbee to use (yes, there are different sorts - rigid, flexible, sizes!) Thankfully we managed to avoid the river. On the final basket we decided to have a competition and the loser would buy the ice-creams. Obviously Vilpo didn't need to worry! Pirjo and I battled it out and were neck and neck - at 4 throws each (on a parr 3 course!) it was all down to the last throw. I am sure Pirjo missed deliberately to be the perfect hostess! However, the ice cream was very nice. Vilpo also gave me a small marker frisbee as a souvenir of my evening which was really kind and I shall keep it as a reminder of my frisbee golf evening.
This sounds like a rewally helpful skill... and great practice for throwing things at hev !!!!! ..only soft things.... like cats !!!!

Yes - well, it would have been if I had mastered it! Like most things not as easy as it looked. My frisbee seemed to have a mind of it's own and certainly didn't go very far!
DeleteGood plan with the cat throwing Dad.... James being so skinny could probably throw him too!!

I think it is probably best not to take this up - stick to sorting the freezer, cleaning etc as you are obviously finding a talent for these!

Looks like fun. Good to hear you're enjoying the experience still. Frisbee golf sounds pretty fascinating / different, maybe you can start a team when you get back?!
ReplyDeleteI'm on my last day of placement today at the school down here, has been really good and the staff and pupils have been so kind and grateful. It does really signify the end of everything down here for me which is a shame, but looking forward to moving on and starting properly now! See you soon - can't believe how quickly the time is going.

I'm not sure there would be many who wanted to join a "remedial frisbee golf team"! I really was not very co-ordinated.
DeleteEndings are always hard, partly because it is sad to move on but also because it does signify change and in your case a major change in you life.
You have certainly gained a lot from being there and I am sure it will help you when you start in September.
Enjoy your free time now - you will probably not have it again!
lots of love Mum xxx
