Yesterday was spent travelling. I didn't sleep well and so got up quite early, finished packing and cleaned the flt. I was ready by 10 but Pirjo wasn't collecting me until 12.30 so I sat outside in the wooded area behind my flat reading until it was time to go. I was quite sad to be leaving Tampere but really felt that I wanted to go home now rather than on to Berlin. I caught the train to Helsinki and found a bus going to the airport.
It must have stopped at every house on the way! It took almost an hour so I was starting to get a bit anxious as I had read it would only take about 30 minutes. My luggage was bulging at the seams. I got to the check-in and saw taht my hand luggage did not fit the holder so took my coat out and unextended it. Then my case went through - the allowance was 23kg and mine weighed 30kg. Needless to say I had to pay the 50 euros excess which was inevitable but a annoying! I then heard a shout - it was Dian checking in too. We had a pleasant time catching up and unwinding before the flight. I got on the plane and hauled my hand cased into the locker - thankfully it fitted and they hadn't weighed that! I got settled in my seat only to find I was in the wrong one!
The flight went quite quickly and on the way I put my watch back 1 hour to German time. We landed on time and our luggage came through very quickly. We had decided to get a taxi to the hotel as we were both tired. As I lifted my case off the luggage trolley there was a ripping sound - the handle giving way! When we got to the hotel I started pulling my case to the reception desk and there another clatter as the pulling mechanism completely fell apart - so much for Estonian suitcases!! I shall have to try and buy a luggage strap to get it home! I was really tired and went up to my room and did a quick unpack. It is a nice room. There is a lot of glass - as I found to my cost when I tried to walk from the shower to the loo, banging my head hard on it! I than couldn't find the wardrobe. Eventually I found it behind one of the white wall sections. Later I found out from reception that there was a fridge behind one as well - and amazingly a kettle and coffee - Hooray! including decaff coffee!

I went to find somewhere to eat. Everywhere was very busy as the German football team were playing. I quickly ate and went back to my room and went to bed, totally exhausted, but very happy to have a comfortable bed with a duvet!

Didn't get a luggage strap but did manage to get a case from the hotel - from lost property and Steve's wife Jane will bring that back for me so all sorted! It is really kind of them and has really sorted out my luggage problem!
DeleteOnly parts of a reindeer - some smoked reindeer and a tin for Hev to try!
Back now and all that a dim and distant memory - did get quite stressed about it all though!
DeleteReally grateful to Steve and Jane for all their help

Good to hear you're in Berlin now! I'm sure Helen is very jealous! Looking forward to seeing you soon and hearing all about the trip.
ReplyDeleteGot my uni results the other day from this term, and all is on track for a high 2:1 at least, which is definitely good :)
See you soon and enjoy your remaining days away! Can't believe how quickly this month has gone!!
Also, the little code things you have to type in to verify that you are human on these blogs seem to have got really difficult, I don't know if you have noticed that? Although I know there's nothing that can be done about it, just thought I'd mention it.
